Obstructions

When I first began the process of launching this project, I knew it wouldn’t go completely smoothly. Getting something off the ground without a few crashes and uncontrollable engine fires isn’t just unlikely; it’s impossible. Still, I optimistically promised my generous donors that everything would be operational by this time of year. However, it’s clear now that we are not where we’d hoped to be. While I’m disappointed with the outcome so far, I’ve learned that delays and obstacles are often unavoidable—especially under our circumstances.

While the funds were sitting idle, waiting to be put to use, tensions arose, and disagreements began to fester. On paper, the task seems straightforward: make decisions, order supplies, and get started. However, as a minor working under high school administration, each step proved to be more challenging than expected. Plans were made, then abruptly changed, and progress stalled. It felt like a cycle of “Okay, when will this let up?” But giving up was never an option for me.

Initially, we planned to order the recycling bins over Thanksgiving break, but… as you might have guessed, that didn’t happen. Then came new discussions and a completely different plan of action that derailed our original concepts. Thanksgiving turned into Christmas. Christmas turned into the New Year. Then “directly after the New Year.” And finally, nothing at all.

Soon, I was faced with absolute radio silence from the person overseeing the project. Communication ceased, decisions were stalled, and the vision I had worked so hard to create seemed to be slipping away.

Despite these obstructions, I refused to let the project die. I regrouped and re-evaluated, determined to make progress, no matter how slow. Eventually, things began moving forward at a manageable pace. I’ve since taken steps to ensure greater transparency and accountability, both for myself and anyone involved in this mission. This includes creating this website to document our journey, update our supporters, and shed light on the challenges we’ve faced—and overcome.

This project was never just about recycling bins. It’s about showing that students can lead initiatives, solve problems, and inspire change within their communities. Challenges, no matter how frustrating, have only strengthened my resolve to see this through. To everyone who has supported this mission: thank you. Your faith in me and this cause is what keeps it alive.

There is still so much work to be done, but I am confident that we’re on the right path. The road to meaningful change is rarely easy, but it is always worth it. I look forward to sharing more updates and milestones with you all as we move forward together.
